Bouffant! invites women everywhere to send an anonymous image of the back of their hair after sex, intimacy, desire, or erotic self-recognition.
Submissions can be made via email or text.

The project began with artist Sarah Lewis recording the back of her own head after sex: a private archive of images that became a moving-image work, and then a call to women everywhere. What started as one woman’s record is becoming a collective portrait.
Why hair?
Hair is intimate. Public. Political. Performative.
It can be armour, invitation, disguise, inheritance, rebellion.
The bouffant hairstyle traditionally smooths the surface while hiding the tangled structure beneath. In this project, that hidden, messy, untamed underneath becomes the subject.
Not polished.
Not styled.
Not made acceptable.
